The Best 5 Free Meditations for Beginners (from Insight Timer)
Happy World Meditation Day! There is nothing that we need more of right now than perspective, confidence and mindfulness. Luckily meditation can strengthen all three of these if you create a practice out of it.
While many of you may not currently participate in meditation, my poll results indicated that it is absolutely something you still enjoy hearing about and having suggestions for. So I will continue to share on my instagram and provide recommendations – and if you ever have any questions, just let me know!
I wanted to put together a post of my top 5 recommended meditations for beginners, in hopes that you too will join me in this ritual of awesomeness.
Although I first began meditating about three or four years ago, this is the first year where I have committed to doing it daily and I have really enjoyed the benefits of it. I’m calmer, more in-control of my thoughts and emotions, and more present in my day to day.
Meditation has the power to enhance our focus, increase our awareness, and expand our minds to amazing possibilities. But every day is different. Jen Sincero says it best in You Are A Badass:
“I’ve had some pretty profound experiences while meditating; I’ve seen the walls melt around me, felt like I was levitating, and have experienced such a state of euphoria that it almost hurt. I’ve also had some extremely un-profound experiences; I’ve fallen asleep, spent the entire time squirming and thinking about what to make for lunch, and have been totally in The Zone, and then realized I was in The Zone, and thought Awesome, I’m in the Zone! Thereby pulling myself out of The Zone. The important thing is that you keep showing up… it will eventually start making a notable difference in your life.” (Pg 91)
So now that you’re feeling like you aren’t sure how you have gone this long without this stuff, I want to give you a handful of the best free beginner meditations on Insight Timer. Ones that are fairly short, easy on the ears and the mind and ones that I enjoy and really get something out of. So, I hope you do too!
My Top 5 Free Beginner Meditations On Insight Timer
Morning Meditation by Bethany Auriel-Hagan – 6 minutes
This meditation is calming and lovely with a little bit of background music. It’s about enjoying a new day and the energy that it can bring, but in a really peaceful way. I like this one for mornings where I just need a little bit of quiet to ease me into my day. I love her tone, her pace and her message.
Manifest Your Deepest Desires with Melissa Ambrosini – 10 min
LOVE this one. It feels magical to me, with her voice, the sounds, the message. I enjoy listening to it about once a week, or once every couple weeks as I want it to be super powerful when I do listen to it. And it feels like the most perfect meditation for a sunny day. It has you feeling an appreciation for abundance, and has you focus on the feelings associated with having a good day, eating well, how you want your life to look etc. It’s just a feel-good, energetic one for when you may need a little lift of your spirits.
Mindful Morning Meditation by Glenda Cedarleaf – 6 minutes
This one is similar to Bethany Auriel-Hagan’s. It’s calming, it’s soft, and it’s lovely. It’s about appreciating the present moment and a new day. It also leaves an extra minute or so at the end to breathe on your own, and to reflect for a minute of your own time.
Simply Being – Relaxation & Presence with Mary Maddux – 5 min.
incredibly simple. I like her voice. I like her pace. No background music. Is about relaxing and having thoughts come and go, and being awareness about what’s going on.
Learn How To Meditate In Seven Days with Insight Timer – 10 minutes/day for 7 days
I storied about this one a lot, and I am so grateful that my friend recommended it! For a week-long meditation course, I could not have asked for anything more. I loved the tone, the speed, and how each day brought a different element of meditation. It covers breathing, presence, thought association, mind-body connection, emotions, intention, and stillness. It was lovely and I feel after a week of this, anyone new to meditation would have an opportunity to “get it.” So I highly recommend to beginners who want a well-rounded experience. For more guidance on where to find it, check out my Mindfulness instagram highlight.
I hope for those of you who are new to meditation, you check out some of the ones above. Please let me know if you listen to any of them, and which ones you like. And please, as always, let me know if you have any recommendations yourself.
